Home network media sharing

TiVo

Music & Photos: This unit connects to the SERVER computer to access the Music & Photos folders. The SERVER computer runs the TiVo Desktop service, and needs to be logged on (locked is ok).

TivoServer

The TivoServer service is running on the SERVER computer and provides access to videos. These videos need to be in .mpg format and saved in the D:\Shared\My Media\My Videos\MPGVideos folder.

DirecTV HR22 receiver

Music & Photos: This unit connects to the SERVER computer to access the Music & Photos folders. The SERVER computer runs as a UPnP server (via Windows Media Player v11) with the “Media Sharing” feature granting access to the DirecTV HR22 receiver. It does not needs to be logged on.

Video on Demand

This is a service from DirecTV, found on Channel 1000. There are many offerings, and you can download them to your Now Playing list on the receiver. Many titles are free.

Other notes

The Orb server running on the OFFICE computer also acts as a UPnP server. The DirecTV HR22 receiver can recognize it and see all of the content, but it cannot play it.
