Launch a VirtualBox Virtual Machine from a shortcut

(From http://blarts.wordpress.com/2007/12/03/how-to-launch-a-virtualbox-virtual-machine-from-a-shortcut/)

One of the things I like about VirtualBox 1.5.0 is the seamless windows mode. The only annoyance I have with this feature is you have to launch the VirtualBox GUI and select your virtual machine. However, VirtualBox does provide a way to launch your Virtual Machine from the command line, this article tells you how to use the command line to create a shortcut or launcher to run your virtual machine without having to run the VirtualBox GUI. Rip DVD movies to your iPod using Handbrake

Windows GUI Usage Guide

First things first. Handbrake on the Windows Platform does NOT decrypt Commercial DVDs. Let me repeat this. It does NOT decrypt commercial DVDs. There are other applications to handle this part of the process.

AnyDVD (Commercial – The best solution) and DVD43 (Free – Works for many DVD’s but not all) -tThese will decrypt DVD’s on the fly for  HandBrake .

DVD Decryptor (Free – Use in ISO Write Mode) will rip ISO images of a DVD to disk,

Please be aware that these applications are not legal in all countries. If you are concerned about this, you should consult the law in your own country. You are using the above tools at your own risk!

We do NOT provide any support for these applications!

This guide will talk you through how to use install and use Handbrake.

SMTP Server for local Joomla installation (free)

If you run Joomla on a local installation, such as with Xampp, you may run into some difficulty setting up the SMTP mail settings to send mail, if you try the included Mercury mail server component.

I found a very simple (and free) program for just this purpose- Free SMTP Server (http://www.softstack.com/). It runs on Windows and is very easy to setup.

Once installed, you click the Options button to view the settings, but you’ll want to accept the defaults. It’s ready to go out of the box.

On the Joomla admin side, go to Site | Global Configuration and on the Server tab, in the Mail Settings section, just be sure you select the following important options:

Mailer: SMTP Server
Authentication: No
Host: localhost
Pages:«1...29303132333435...61»
