PeachTree Pro 2007 Pro – Cannot open existing company

[b:2lrt0rfl]Problem:[/b:2lrt0rfl]
I am trying to install the 2007 PeachTree Pro on our network. Everything went fairly smoothly…installed server components, installed PT on each workstation seemed to run fine. The problem I have is when I try to open our company (or a sample company) I get the following message:
“You cannot open this company because someone has a company open that does not have users set-up. Two companies cannot be open at the same time if neither has users set-up. You can try to login later or set-up users in at least one of the companies.”

I get this message even when all other computers other than one workstation & the server are shut-down.

[b:2lrt0rfl]Solution:[/b:2lrt0rfl]
Assuming that you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, check for the installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or IE 7. If present, go to the Windows Control Panel, and Add/Remove Programs and Uninstall IE 7. Windows will re-install IE 6.0. Following which, you will need to uninstall Peachtree and then re-install the program again.

MS ActiveSync: Change Your sync folder

Q: ActiveSync defines by default that the Sync Files will be under “My Documents”. How do I change this location, if for instance, I want it under D:\PocketPC?

A: You will need to make the changes in the registry if you want to change the target folder settings since Activesync will not allow you to do it. Please note that m modify the Registry contents is never supported by any of the manufacturers. If you want to do it anyways, then it is recommended you first backup the registry information using the File -> Export feature in the registry. Read more »

Run an application as a service

For security reasons, you try to run every user as a restricted user. At times this can be extremely tough especially when dealing with vendor apps that absolutely have to be run under the administrator account.

Here’s a way to run the app as a service using the “Log on as” service property set to an administrator. Read more »

How to force Time Syncronization

You can force a machine to sync its time with either its domain controller (DC)—if the computer is part of a domain—or its configured external time source by using the following command:
